Kinja'd!!!

My grandfather came here from Italy in 1957, with his family that included With my father who was less then a year old. I was always told he was a member of the Carabinieri. This is the only Picture I have of him in uniform. I was doing some research on the Carabinieri. I’m not so sure if this is the right uniform, I was wondering if anyone could help me with placing the uniform, or push me in the right direction to find out more.

Based on your story I just googled “Carabinieri 1940's” and came up with this image:

Kinja'd!!!

which looks identical to your grandfather’s picture.

I also found an article from the Carabinieri website about its uniform.

http://www.carabinieri.it/arma/curiosita/non-tutti-sanno-che/u/uniforme-dei-carabinieri

They also have some pretty sweet cars.

Ha, yeah, part of the reason this came up is I showed the picture to ex military coworker and that’s the first thing they pointed out.

I saw someone not do up their pouch on their Web gear once. ever see someone try to march in formation with their poncho dragging behind them and half their shit on the outside of their gear? we used to tie our mugs to our person too so that clattering along as well.

It’s the first thing I notice everywhere.... after boobs.

The motorsports club’s team of the Polizia di Stato (not the Carabinieri - Italy has quite a few different police/security forces...) has had quite nice cars too:

Of course there is also the famous 250 GT/E of the Polizia di Stato ’s Squadra Mobile in Rome. There are a couple of nice period pictures here:

The Italian army also have rather good taste. This is a Delta Integralle rally car of the (former) airmobile Friuli brigade, in regulation verde oliva (olive drab):
